Adding a tag to one customer
- 1Shopify admin → Customers → open the customer.
- 2In the Tags card on the right, type the tag, for example wholesale.
- 3Press Enter, then Save.
Adding tags in bulk
Select customers from the Customers list and use Actions → Add tags for up to fifty at a time. For larger sets, export the customer CSV, fill the Tags column, and re-import with Overwrite existing customers enabled. Tags in the CSV are comma-separated inside a single quoted cell.
How matching works
- Matching is exact on the whole tag: wholesale does not match wholesale-eu.
- Matching is case-insensitive: Wholesale, wholesale and WHOLESALE are the same tag.
- A lock listing several tags unlocks for a customer holding any one of them.
- Tag changes take effect on the customer's next page load; there is no cache to clear.
- A logged-out visitor has no tags, so any tag-based lock stays closed for them.
One tag, three apps
Because the tag is Shopify's own field, the same value drives our other apps. Tag a customer wholesale once and Prime Lock opens the catalog, Discount Prime applies the B2B price list, and Prime MOQ applies the wholesale minimum order rules. You approve a buyer in one place and their access, pricing and order rules all follow.
Tags versus B2B companies
Shopify Plus stores can use B2B company profiles instead. Prime Lock works with tags on every plan, including stores that are not on Plus. If you run both, tag the company's contacts as well; the tag is what the lock reads.
