LockPro is a well-built newer entrant with the Built for Shopify badge and an unusually complete feature set for its age, including analytics on locked content, which almost nobody else offers and which is genuinely useful. The constraint is the free plan: one lock. Past that it is $9.99 or $19.99 a month, and checkout validation is not in the published feature set at any tier.

9 of the 10 capabilities LockPro publishes are on the Prime Lock free plan

The remaining country / ip rules sit on our $9.99 Pro tier. Everything else, including checkout enforcement, is free and stays free for your store.

Honest assessment

Where LockPro is a good fit

For a 2024 app, the breadth is impressive: variant-option locking, blog locking, country blocking, secret links, scheduled date windows and multi-language support. Several apps that have been around three times as long publish less.

The standout is analytics on locked content. Knowing how many people hit a gate and turned around is the only way to judge whether a lock is protecting your margin or quietly costing you sales, and almost nobody in this category surfaces it. It is the feature we most wish we had thought of first.

The Built for Shopify badge means it has cleared Shopify's performance and integration review, which is a meaningful signal about how the app is put together rather than a marketing claim.

The difference

Where Prime Lock is different

Prime Lock compiles each lock into a Shopify Function that runs inside Shopify's checkout on every plan, so a buyer without access cannot complete an order even from a cart permalink. Checkout validation is not in LockPro's published feature set at any tier, which leaves its gate at the storefront layer.

The free plans are the other real difference. LockPro's free plan is limited to one product lock or one entire-store lock, which is enough to try the app but not enough to run a catalog. Prime Lock's free plan is unlimited locks with enforcement included, and the grandfathering promise means what is free the day you install stays free for your store.

Registration and approval are also not in LockPro's published feature set. If you need applicants vetted before the catalog opens, that workflow lives in Prime Lock's free tier.

Migration

Switching from LockPro

  1. Step 1

    Note your existing rules

Write down every rule you have configured in LockPro: what it protects, who it lets in, and any schedule attached to it. This is the only step that takes real time, and doing it before you install anything makes the rest mechanical.

  2. Step 2

    Recreate them as locks

Build each rule in Prime Lock as a lock: pick the lock type, set Applies to, set Who can unlock, and add a schedule if the original had one. Your customer tags carry over unchanged, because both apps read Shopify's native customer tags rather than storing their own copy.

  3. Step 3

Uninstall LockPro and check your theme

LockPro is Built for Shopify and uses the app-embed pattern, so uninstalling should be clean. Toggle its embed off in the theme customiser first, and confirm a locked page renders normally before removing the app. After uninstalling, view a locked product as a guest and as a tagged customer, and try a direct cart permalink to confirm the checkout Function rejects it.
